HAPPY END OF THE SEMESTER BULLS!
As another semester has come and gone GLOBE is honored to have had such amazing moments with so many wonderful people. We are so passionate about giving back in the name of sustainability and this semester we were able to accomplish so much. One of our main goals this semester was to build more of a presence on campus and involve both graduate and undergraduate students.
We brought back in-person member meetings on campus and had many gatherings centered around sustainable initiatives and zero-waste living. Involving sustainable entities from around Tampa bay we had our first-ever Sustain-A-Bull Symposium at USF’s Botanical Gardens featuring many different clubs and organizations. We had an interactive eco-art, candle-making, and mason jar planting station at this event. We had our 1st off-campus Fundraising Social at BLAZE pizza, our 1st Plant Swap, Shop, and Prop session, and our 1st sustainable gift-making event. We also brought back our Giving Closet at Bulls Market and it was such a success that we are going to do it again in Spring.
We also volunteered at the Humane Society, with Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, and visited the Rosebud Continuum. We partnered with Waste Not Refillery a mobile eco-market that sells sustainable items such as soaps, toothpaste, mouthwash tablets, shampoos and conditioners, pet toys, laundry sheets, and much more to give USF students a chance to buy sustainable swaps. We certainly couldn’t have done it without the support of our members, fellow students and clubs, local organizations, sustainable or otherwise, and of course our mentors and PCGS. Congratulations to all USF graduates especially our Patel students! We hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday! Also if you have any ideas for next semester we would love to hear them! WELCOME ABOARD E-BOARD!
GLOBE is happy to announce that we have elected some new e-board members for the spring semester including our first-ever Event Coordinator position! Although we are sad to see some current e-board members go we wish them all the best in their future endeavors and are so grateful to have worked with such wonderful USF students. They were great additions to the team! We are excited to see what the future for GLOBE holds with our new additions and can't wait to work together in the upcoming spring semester!
LAST MEMBER MEETING OF THE FALL SEMESTER!
Please join us for GLOBE final member meeting of the month. It will be held on Wednesday 12/7 at 5pm within the PCGS building, room 140. We will also be having the meeting online via Teams. Hope to see you there!

A YEAR WITH GLOBE
We accomplished a lot this year; GLOBE hosted the first Sustain-a-bull Symposium, organized educational tours at the Rosebud Continuum, and volunteered with different organizations on-and-off campus. By participating in cleanups, tabling events, and attending Bulls Markets we were able to engage with the community and gain a lot of new members.
Thank you to our new and exisiting members for participating on our projects, attending events and socials, we greatly appreciate your support. Next semester we plan to have more events and create a greater impact on campus and in the community. Stay tuned to learn details regarding our upcoming education, outreach, and networking opportunities!
The pictures provided are from several events, ranging from the third grade our soil science experiment at Rosebud, the USF Eco-Conscious tabling event, tours at Rosebud, the Susutain-a-bull Symposium, one of the adoptable pups from the Humane Society, and a picture at a beach cleanup. Essentially, we covered a bit of ground and did a lot of good!
This spring we volunteered at a costal cleanup at the Hope Spot in Dunedin and this fall we participated in Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful's Hillsborough River coastal clean up. We aim to host and participate in more cleanups and we need your help to maximize our impact.
Throughout the semester we have made several trips to Rosebud and plan to continue our work at the education center including hosting fieldtrips, student-led experiments, and advocating against the building development on Hale Road. Consider coming out to Rosebud, either for the education, preservation, or anytime in between!
STUDENT GREEN ENERGY FUND
We want to thank the Project Leads and everyone who has been actively working on the SGEF initiatives this semester and we look forward to hearing about your progress. With your insight, we establishd four main ideas:
Food Forest at the Botanical Gardens
Improved Recycling
Mobile Solar Array
Thrift-a-bull Thriftshop at Student Services
In January, the Project Leads will meet with Amy Garland, the SGEF Project Coordinator, to establish a project tineline. We intned to finalize our ideas, secure our faculty sponsors, complete the project summary, create a budget, and present to the SGEF Council in February or March. If and when approved, we plan to begin the implementation process before the semester ends.
The Electric Bus proposal, one of the SGEF iniaitives that GLOBE endorsed, did get approved at November's Council meeting. This initiative, which emerged as a continued partnership with SGEF and PATS, will add a second electric bus and therefore retire a B20 biodiesel bus on USFs fleet. Electrifying USFs public transportation eliminates Scope 1 emissions, which are the direct greenhouse gas emissions associated with operations. We cannot wait to see this, along with our other four initiaitves, to take place on campus!
