- Graudate School Application Support Opportunity:
- Científico Latino is an amazing organization that was started by graduate students with the goal of getting more under represented students into Masters and PhD programs. They are currently recruiting a new cohort of students interested in applying to graduate school this year (2024-2025). I was in the programs first cohort, and I can attest to how important it is to have additional support while navigating the application process - especially as the only person who went to graduate school in my family. Not only was I matched with an Epidemiology PhD student from the University of North Carolina who helped me review my application materials and general interests, but I also was matched with two PhD graduates who helped me to practice interviewing for PhD positions. Learn more about the FREE oportunity here, Note, they are recruiting both those applying and mentors, so if you would like to mentor, their application is also available on their website.
- Research Participation Opportunity:
- USF's Auditory Rehabilitation and Clinical Trials Laboratory (ARCT Lab) is currently recruiting Latine/o participants, aged 55-75, for their Early Age-Related Hearing Loss Intervention Pilot Study. Please share this information with anyone you think who could benefit. See the attached flyer for details.
Lastly, as this will be my final year as LCPH, USF President, I wanted to thank each and every one of you for the years of support that I received during my 3 year tenure. Inspired by the support that was given to us during our training, the LCPH, USF Student chapter was started by 7 USF College of Public Health graduate students and our advisor, Dr. Dinorah Martinez Tyson. We have since grown to over 40 members, have been recognized by the COPH during the college's renaming ceremony, introduced many students to Latine/o health research and research opportunities, and have been formally recognized as the FIRST student chapter of the National Latino Caucus for Public Health - an American Public Health Association affiliate. I could not be more proud of what we have accomplished over the few short years that we have been around. I will of course always be available to chat or provide any support to the new E-Board, so feel free to reach out to me at any time - now or in the future. Also, feel free to add me on linked
here!
Given the health (COVID-19), political, and economic challenges each and every one of us has faced over the last few years, we would not have been able to achieve our level of success without your support. Looking to the future, my hope is that the LCPH, USF will continue to be a beacon of hope for those interested in Latine/o health we as continue our work to support each other and our communities. It has been an absolute honor to serve you all and to grow with you.
Thank you!
Kindly,
