About Us
The Institute for the Study of Latin America and the Caribbean (ISLAC) fosters interdisciplinary inquiry into Latin America, the Caribbean, and Latino/a/x issues in the US. It promotes diversity in its staff, events, and scholarly practice, aiming to decolonize the sciences and humanities. ISLAC engages faculty and students from various fields, including social sciences, natural sciences, humanities, arts, and human services. It stands out within the USF academic community for its multidisciplinary, applied scholarship and its focus on anti-racist learning environments and community engagement. ISLAC also emphasizes Tampa's historical and cultural connections with Latin America, the Caribbean, and Latino/a/x populations.
