Fall 2025 School of Theatre and Dance Performance Studio Courses Auditions Information.
The Theatre Performance Concentration faculty will hold in-person auditions for Acting II and Acting III on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 10:00 am. The same day, the Musical Theatre faculty will hold in-person auditions for Acting the Song and Musical Theatre Workshop at 1:00 pm.
The Dance Faculty will hold in-person auditions for Ballet 1-4 on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 10:00 am and for Contemporary Dance 1-4 that same day at 12:15pm.
Registration for all the auditions opens on August 2nd, 2025, and closes on August 23rd at 5:00 pm.

Acting II Auditions Information
Acting II (TPP 3155.001.F25.CRN 88232). Professors Dora Arreola (darreola@usf.edu).
When: Sunday, August 24th, 2025
Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (mandatory body and voice group warm-up at 10:00 am)
Where: TAR 130
Pre-requisites: TPP 2110 Acting I; USF Theatre core courses or equivalent credits; Script Analysis and your audition.
AUDITION REQUIREMENT: One monologue from a published play (1950-present), should not exceed one-minute.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The training includes defining/exploring Goals/ Needs, Actions/Tactics, Expectation, and Stakes. Students learn how to collaborate, to examine a scene, and rehearse consciously. The first character you explore is ‘you’. It requires honesty, boldness, trust, imagination, and time. The focus in the work is listening, responding, and investing in your scene partner.

Acting III Auditions Information

When: Sunday, August 24th, 2025
Time: 10:00 am -12:00 pm (mandatory body and voice group warm-up at 10:00 am)

Pre-requisites: TPP 3155 Acting II or equivalent credit and your audition.
AUDITION REQUIREMENT: Two monologues that contrast in material, character, and/or style, - from a published play, should not exceed one-minute each.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The training focuses on physical actions methodologies in which students will strengthen acting tools, improvisation practices, scene, and character analysis. Course objective is to develop the ability to perform a complex, multi-layered character. The process requires discipline, commitment, and vulnerability.

Acting the Song Auditions Information
Acting the Song (TPP 3251C.001.F25.CRN 88428). Prof. Michelle Hache (mhache@usf.edu).
When: Sunday, August 24th, 2025
Time: 1:00 - 2:00 pm
Where: TAR 120
Pre-requisites: TPP 2110 Acting I, or permission of the instructors, and your audition.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: One 32-bar song cut from any time period of musical theatre repertoire. Cut must not exceed 1 min 45 seconds.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will enable the student to approach music and lyrics from the actor’s point of view. Lyrics are explored as monologues and music is explored to support the emotional life of the character. Students will also learn how to develop a thorough understanding of time periods/genres of musical theatre repertoire, and how it relates to their technique and process.

Musical Theatre Workshop Auditions Information

When: Sunday, August 24th, 2025
Time: 2:00 - 4:00 pm
Where: TAR 120
Pre-requisites: TPP 2110 Acting I, or permission of the instructors, and your audition.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Students should prepare two contrasting song cuts and one 1-min monologue.
No "a cappella" singing (singing without accompaniment) will be allowed. Students must provide pianist with sheet music at their time of audition.
- One 32-bar cut from a musical theatre song written before 1970. This selection can be either "uptempo" or “ballad".
- One 32-bar cut from a contemporary musical theatre song written after 1970, in contrast to the style and tempo of the first selection.
- Students must also prepare a memorized, 1-minute monologue from a contemporary published play (1950-Present).
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This performance-based class will offer multiple opportunities to perform musical theatre solos, scenes, and monologues. Students will learn about industry standards/expectations and polish their audition process. Repertoire will explore the various decades of musical theatre, from classic pre-70’s musicals, through the most current styles. This course will culminate in a staged showcase performance for the public.

Ballet Auditions Information
When: Sunday, August 24th, 2025
Time: 10am-11am
Where: FAD 105
Pre-requisites: Placement Audition
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Students should come prepared to take a ballet technique class in dance attire (leotard, tights, and ballet shoes).

Students should come prepared to take a contemporary modern technique class in close-fitting dance attire and bare feet
