About Us
The mission of DAHR is to collaborate with other university organizations and local government agencies for a common goal through advocacy, philanthropy, and service from disaster response activations to refugee resettlement & anti-human trafficking work. DAHR has a specialized unit (known as USF CERT) for those eager to respond to needs in the community before, during, and after a disaster. The role of USF Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is to educate the community about how to prepare for natural and man-made disasters. The team is trained through a FEMA-certified basic course that includes 16 hours of in-class training and a final practical exercise to test your skills. The team is a part of the response team under Hillsborough County Office of Emergency Management and Public Health Preparedness at the Department of Health. During an activation, members help support sheltering, logistics, mass care, points of distribution/points of dispensing (PODs), damage assessment, and unmet needs during recovery.
