New Events with ICLC: Conferences, Study Abroad, Work in Ireland!

 

Come out and support the undergraduate humanities conference! This year's conference will feature 30 posters and 50 paper presentations as well as an incredible keynote speaker, Sarah Kavanagh the Consul General of Ireland in Miami. The conference is free to attend. We encourage faculty and community members to help us fill the audience. Please drop in and walk the poster session, or observe a panel discussion. We want students to look out and see a roomful of supportive, happy faces.

Sarah Kavanagh
Consul General of Ireland in Miami

Prior to entering the diplomatic service, Sarah Kavanagh served in a senior capacity as a Government Adviser during the period 2014-2020 including in the Department of Justice and Equality and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She also worked for several years in policy and communication roles in the Irish Parliament. A barrister by training, she holds master’s degrees in political communication and politics and a BA in history and politics.

Study Abroad Fair with USF World: Study in Ireland! 

 

Come visit our table at the the USF study abroad fair to learn about our new study abroad program in Ireland! 

Date: Wednesday, Jan 22nd
Time: 11am-3pm
Location: FAO 100

• Start the course in Dublin, situating our learning in the backdrop of the 1916 Easter Rising and the Irish Literary and Cultural Revival with visits to Dublin Castle, Kilmainham Gaol, the EPIC museum, and Trinity College, with its famous Book of Kells.
• Travel on to the northwest of Ireland to experience Sligo, the homeland of Nobel Prize winning Irish author W.B. Yeats and see the sights that inspired his most famous works, such as Knocknarea and Ben Bulben. From Sligo, spend a few days learning about the Northern Irish troubles in the cultural and political hotspots of Derry and Belfast.
• End the trip in Newgrange, a priceless monument to prehistoric Irish history.These explorations will highlight our study of key works of Irish literature by authors including Sally Rooney, James Joyce, W.B. Yeats, Lady Augusta Gregory, Seamus Heaney, and Michael Longley.

Live & Work in Ireland: Working Holiday Authorization Program Virtual Info Session

Dara MacGabhann from the Office of the Consulate General of Ireland, based in Miami, will discuss how recent graduates from any undergraduate or graduate program in the United States (must be US citizens) can live and work in Ireland up to 12 months, visa-free, through the Working Holiday Authorization program. USF students from all three campuses are welcome to this virtual event discussing the program. 

Mr. MacGabhann will also be running a pop-up consulate table at the USF Humanities Institute Graduate Humanities Symposium in the Marshall Student Center on the USF Tampa campus on Friday, February 21st, to answer any questions about the program.
