About Us

The First-Gen Community is a support network for first-generation undergraduate students at the University of South Florida. The Office of Undergraduate Studies, in collaboration with University partners, supports students whose parents did not complete a 4-year college degree in the United States. This group will provide students with resources, connections, and support to successfully navigate their college journey.

Students are considered First-Gen if:

  • The student's primary caregiver(s) did not earn a bachelor's degree
  • The student will be the first in their immediate family to graduate from a four-year college
  • The student's primary caregiver(s) completed their degrees after turning 25
  • The student has a primary caregiver that did not graduate from a four-year college in the United States
  • The student's primary caregiver(s) have a degree, but it was earned in a non-traditional way
