We are excited to announce an exclusive opportunity for emerging curators and art enthusiasts to become part of the creative dialogue at the Centre Gallery, University of South Florida. As we prepare to embark on the Spring semester, we invite passionate individuals to apply for the position of Guest Curator, an experience that not only allows you to shape the visual narrative of our space but also offers valuable exposure and professional development for your art or art history career.
About Centre Gallery, USF:
The Centre Gallery, established in 1984, is one of the only and entirely student-run and non-profit art exhibition spaces in Florida and is part of the Center for Student Involvement at the USF Tampa campus. The gallery offers the university and the Tampa Bay area various stimulating visual art experiences by showing innovative and contemporary artwork. It provides USF and community artists the opportunity to experiment with new ideas while gaining an educational gallery experience. The Centre Gallery is located in the Marshall Student Center in room 2700.
What We're Looking For:
For the upcoming Fall semester, we are seeking enthusiastic Guest Curators who will bring fresh, innovative perspectives to our gallery. Each exhibit will run for two weeks, providing a platform for you to express your artistic vision. We encourage curators to take a hands-on approach, curating art pieces they find and source themselves. To maintain the integrity of our space, no permanent damage, such as nails in the wall or painting, is allowed. However, art pieces can be securely displayed using painter's tape or our gallery J-hook system.
Benefits of Guest Curating at the Centre Gallery:
Portfolio Enhancement: Guest curating at the Centre Gallery provides you with a unique opportunity to build your portfolio and showcase your curatorial skills. It's a tangible achievement that can set you apart in the competitive art world.
Professional Development: Gain practical experience and develop key skills in exhibition planning, art selection, and gallery management. Collaborate with our team and immerse yourself in the workings of a professional art space.
Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow artists, curators, and art enthusiasts within the vibrant USF and Tampa Bay art community. Build relationships that can open doors for your future endeavors.
Exposure: Your work as a Guest Curator will be featured prominently in our gallery, and your contribution will be promoted through our channels. This exposure is invaluable for your personal and professional growth.
How to Apply:
To apply, please submit your application by June 30. Include a curated exhibition proposal, a brief artist statement, and a summary of your curatorial vision for the Centre Gallery in the Spring semester. We are looking for individuals with a passion for art and a vision that aligns with our commitment to promoting diverse, thought-provoking contemporary art.
Once submissions close on Sunday, June 30th at 11:59 PM, the Centre Gallery staff will come together as a committee to review and select the season's exhibitions. Decisions will be announced via email or a phone call for accepted, alternate, and declined exhibitions.
Don't miss this exceptional opportunity to leave your mark on the art world and enhance your professional journey. Be a part of the Centre Gallery's legacy of creativity and exploration.
